Fast and efficient
In the context of further growth and verticalization, logistics is a decisive factor in the commercial process. Continuous optimization of the logistic processes is of central importance within the GERRY WEBER Group. In order to improve the effectiveness of the supply chain and to shorten the period from designing a garment to its availability in the retail market, the entire logistics department was restructured in 2009.
The distribution of goods now takes place in close collaboration with two specialized logistics service providers. Here, all processes are bundled and synchronized; from goods in, storage, quality assurance, order preparation and order picking to shipping. The company has discontinued its own logistics facilities in Halle. With this concentration on only two partners, the GERRY WEBER Group reaches less complexity of processes, less transport, more transparency, less runtimes and a homogenous and dynamic flow of products.
A Pioneer with RFID
The GERRY WEBER Group plays a pioneering role in the area of radio frequency identification (RFID) in the apparel industry and introduced this technology in order to optimize the processes of logistics and retail as well as anti-shoplifting in the entire company in 2010 after several trial phases. Using RFID chips, which are sewed in the garments, a high level of inventory accuracy can be reached in the retail area resulting in an improved supply of goods. Stock takings can be carried out much faster. Another important advantage is the functionality of anti-shoplifting because no security tags need to be attached. At the same time, RFID increases the transparency of the logistics and reduces the error rate significantly.
