GERRY WEBER continues to push ahead international expansion; Retail
segments posts record monthly sale for this financial year
GERRY WEBER Retail sales climbed to EUR 26.3 million in March 2012, up
approximately 51% on the March 2011 figures. Apart from positive effects
from the ongoing expansion, the sales increase was mainly due to a 20
percent rise in like-for-like sales in Germany. Like-for-like sales in the
international HOUSES of GERRY WEBER were on par with the prior year with
the notable exception of Denmark where our HOUSES of GERRY WEBER saw sales
advance by 9%.
GERRY WEBER's online shops are increasingly well accepted by customers too.
Online business has developed highly positively, with March sales up some
45% on the year to EUR 1.7 million.
Effective March 15, 2012, the former WISSMACH branches were taken over as
scheduled by our Retail segment. Managing Director Ralf Weber commented:
'We are very satisfied with sales in our new branches during these early
days. However, we are looking at two key tasks in the coming weeks. Apart
from selling off the remaining WISSMACH inventory, we will focus on
converting these branches to our branded concepts.' The company expects to
open the first rebranded stores as early as in May 2012.
The upcoming tasks related to the conversion and integration of the
WISSMACH branches have in no way slowed down the Retail segment's other
expansion activities. March 2012 saw a total of 17 new openings in such
cities as Ulm, Leipzig and Kiel as well as in smaller towns such as
Kaufbeuren and Bensheim. Three company-managed HOUSES of GERRY WEBER were
opened in Austria.
Moreover, the opening of 15 new franchisee-managed HOUSES of GERRY WEBER
helped to push ahead the international expansion of the Wholesale segment.
Apart from four new stores in the Netherlands and two in Belgium, the new
openings included franchisee-managed HOUSES of GERRY WEBER in Austria,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Poland, Australia and Canada.
